Diabetes is an epidemic that mainly affects the more developed countries. In Spain, more than 5 million people over the age of 18 suffer from it (13.8% of the population). This disease affects such vital organs as the kidneys, eyesight, heart or the nervous system, so early diagnosis and treatment are essential. Thanks to the latest technology, a group of researchers aim to develop drugs that work as small insulin “micro-factories” implemented in patients that will control their level of glucose and avoid the need for insulin injections.
Gorka Orive, Doctor in Pharmaceutical Technology at the UPV/EHU, will talk about this innovative solution at the “Insulin “micro-factories” to treat diabetes” conference.
This talk is part of Zientziateka, a monthly series of conferences organised by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the University of the Basque Country and Azkuna Zentroa to raise awareness of current scientific matters.
Tickets should be collected from the Azkuna Zentroa Information Point. Access is free.
