Endocannabinoid systems play a role in several physiological and pathological processes within our bodies. The natural cannabinoids in plants, as well as synthetic cannabinoids, are able to improve this endogenous system. In recent years, a great deal of research has been done on this subject so as to better understand the way in which the endocannabinoid system works in human beings. A recently published report demonstrated that the endocannabinoid system may play a role in high-performance processes such as memory, as well as others. All of these findings are opening the doors to new options in terms of designing proper cannabinoid-based treatments, which in turn makes them a therapeutic target of great interest.
Leire Reguero Acebal, professor of the School of Medicine and Nursing at the UPV/EHU, will be discussing the latest research published on the cannabinoid system, as well as explaining the options offered by cannabinoids in the treatment of diseases, during a talk & discussion titled “Cannabinoids: New Research and Therapeutic Options“. This activity is part of the Zientziateka programme and will take place on 13 December at Azkuna Zentroa in Bilbao.
Zientziateka is a monthly initiative organised by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU and Azkuna Zentroa to raise awareness of current scientific matters.
Tickets should be collected from the Azkuna Zentroa Information Point. Entry is free.
