Our immune system can modify the function of several brain receptors by synthesising antibodies. This phenomenon causes behaviour, memory and personality changes, and psychosis. Nowadays, thanks to the development of diagnostic tests, we are able to identify these problems and treat them adequately. These processes are also natural models of neuronal diseases, so they help us to better understand how the human brain works.

Neurologist and researcher Josep Dalmau will be talking about these autoimmune brain diseases at a talk entitled “Brain, Mind and Autoimmunity“.

The talk will take place on 26 October in the Auditorium of Dock Bilbao, and is part of the Achucarro Forum series of talks organised by Achucarro, the Basque Center for Neuroscience, with the aim of raising awareness of brain research and its diseases. The talk is being organised together with the Chair of Scientific Culture of the UPV/EHU.

The talk will be in Spanish and admission is free, subject to available seating. Attendance must be confirmed by writing an email to forum@achucarro.org or calling 94 601 81 35.
