It is a general scientific outreach blog. The contents consist of news about recent research, articles of general dissemination of all areas of science, op-eds and, above all, materials that contribute to building the foundations of scientific culture, that is, works that facilitate a critical approach to evidence-based reality.
The authors are from many universities and research centers, professors and researchers, but not only. The blog contains work by professionals from different fields: scientists, outreach proffesionals, journalists… The only condition is the commitment to scientific culture and its dissemination and rigour.
Since its launch in 2011, more than 5,000 articles have been published in Spanish language, written by more than 500 collaborators. From arithmetic to zoology, including basic science and the latest developments, all can be found in the blog, presented rigorously, but pleasantly in the form of scientific dissemination articles, infographics, videos, podcasts, etc.
It is a professional publication with a responsible editor, César Tomé López.
When it was first created, Cuaderno de Cultura Científica was a WordPress blog, which is still online. Juan Ignacio Pérez Iglesias wrote the first post of the blog: Ciencia y libertad (Science and Freedom).
The last post of the old blog was published in September 2013: “El Cuaderno se transforma y se traslada” (Cuaderno transforms and moves). When changing the hosting, Cuaderno de Cultura Científica brought its whole archive to the new blog, so no material was lost.
