The Universes Beyond the Horizon

According to several observations, a large part of the universe is expanding. The Earth is in a region of the universe where that kind of violent expansion has already finished. However, other regions are constantly being created in this process of explosive evolution, with properties that are very different to ours. This has led to the idea of the existence of parallel universes – a phenomenon also known as “multiverse”.

Scientist Alexander Vilenkin, director of the Institute of Cosmology at Tufts University in the US and one of the world’s most renowned cosmologists, will be discussing this theory at a talk called “The Universes Beyond the Horizon”. He will explain where these ideas came from, the observations they are based on and the implications they have for the theories of the origin and future of the universe.

The talk will take place on 17 May in Bidebarrieta Library, in Bilbao, and is organised by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), the Department of Theoretical Physics and History of Science and the library. The talk will be in English, but simultaneous interpretation into Spanish will be available.

Admission is free but tickets can be collected in advance at Bidebarrieta Library (10-17 May, 10am-2pm / 4-8pm, except Saturday and Sunday) or at this link (10-16 May). Advance tickets will be limited to two per person.
