A research team from the UPV/EHU is participating in the NASA Mars2020 mission, which aims to transport a new scientific vehicle to Mars to explore potential signs of life, evaluate its habitability and improve the study of the Martian climate, atmosphere and geology. These researchers will be responsible for calibrating a camera that will analyse the soil of the red planet, using different spectroscopic measurements, to look for organic signs and determine the mineralogy and the chemical, atomic and molecular composition of the samples located.
The director of this research team, Juan Manuel Madariaga, will talk about this project in a conference entitled “The eyes that will explore the surface of Mars“.
The session will take place on 22 February at Azkuna Zentroa (Bilbao) and will be in Spanish. It is part of Zientziateka, a monthly series of conferences organised by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the University of the Basque Country and Azkuna Zentroa to raise awareness of current scientific matters.
Tickets should be collected from the Azkuna Zentroa Information Point. Access is free.
