We have been investigating how to create intelligent machines for many years. Researchers in the 1950s and 60s wanted to program machines by hand, coding the knowledge of human beings and enabling them to have logical reasoning abilities. During that time they observed that machines’ intelligence was very rigid and was far from being as flexible as human intelligence, and this flexibility is what our world requires. This is not where the current artificial intelligence revolution comes from. In the end we have understood that machines have to learn by themselves in order for their intelligence to be comparable to ours. In this talk we will find out how machines learn and what they are already able to do.
Gorka Azkune, researcher at the University of Deusto, will be giving a talk on this topic: “The amazing learning capacity of machines”. The talk will take place on 17 January at Azkuna Zentroa in Bilbao. It will be in Basque and is part of the Zientziateka programme.
Zientziateka is a monthly initiative organised by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU and Azkuna Zentroa to raise awareness of current scientific matters.
Tickets should be collected from the Azkuna Zentroa Information Point. Entry is free.
