Our DNA is damaged on a daily basis: radiation, free radicals, and other carcinogenic substances… Even so, our body has the ability to repair this damage. Thanks to a discovery made in this field, Tomas Lindahl of Sweden, Paul Modrich of the United States and Aziz Sancar of Turkey have received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Ainhoa Iglesias, Professor of Genetics of the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU, will give a lecture on this subject in a talk entitled, ‘Zergatik merezi du Nobel saria DNAren konponketak?’ (Why is DNA repair worthy of the Nobel Prize?). The event will take place on 9 November in Azkuna Zentroa. The talk will be in Basque.

Zientziateka is a monthly initiative organised by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU and Azkuna Zentroa to raise awareness of current scientific matters.

Tickets should be collected from the Azkuna Zentroa Information Point. Entry is free.
