A new food pyramid was brought out recently. This document, based on the contributions of more than one hundred food and public health experts, aims to promote healthy eating habits. Some changes that have been made to the guide that came out in 2001 include vitamin and mineral supplements, the difference between fruit and vegetables and advice to limit alcohol consumption even further. Why have these changes been made? What effects will they have?

Edurne Simón, Professor of Nutrition and Bromatology at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), will answer these questions and explain the keys to the new food guide at a talk called “Is the new food pyramid really new?” The event will take place on 9 May at Azkuna Zentroa in Bilbao. It will be in Basque and is part of the Zientziateka programme.

Zientziateka is a monthly series of conferences organised by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the University of the Basque Country and Azkuna Zentroa to raise awareness of current scientific matters.

Tickets should be collected from the Azkuna Zentroa Information Point. Access is free.
