The underwater world is still greatly unknown. To explore the impact of human action on the ocean, its biodiversity, the processes taking place in its depths and their influence on the ocean’s behaviour, in 2010 the “Circumnavigation expedition Malaspina: Global change and exploration of the ocean’s biodiversity” started; an interdisciplinary scientific initiative with over 250 scientists.

One of them was Iñigo Azua, researcher and professor of Microbiology at the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU, who will offer a conference under the title ‘Malaspina expedition: 42,000 miles under the sea’ on February 24th, at 19:00 hours in Azkuna Zentroa. This conference, which is part of the Zientziateka programme, will be in Spanish.

Zientziateka is a monthly initiative organised by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU and Azkuna Zentroa to raise awareness of current scientific matters.

Tickets should be collected from the Azkuna Zentroa Information Point from 1 February. Entry is free.
