Several diseases have spread all over the globe in recent years. Ebola, MERS, SAR and various strains of bird flu, for example, have crossed their usual geographical borders and have spread to other countries. Over the last few months, everyone has been talking about a virus that was previously unknown to us: Zika. What are its features? Does it pose a threat to us? How are these diseases becoming globalised?
Miren Basaras, Professor of Microbiology at the UPV/EHU, will be covering this topic at a talk entitled: “Zika birusa: azkenaurreko mehatxua?” (“Zika virus: The penultimate threat?”) The event will take place on 12 April in Azkuna Zentroa, and the lecture will be in Basque.
Zientziateka is a monthly initiative organised by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU and Azkuna Zentroa to raise awareness of current scientific matters.
Tickets should be collected from the Azkuna Zentroa Information Point. Entry is free.
