Over the past few months, several national and international agencies have issued various alerts on the expansion of a type of fungus, called Candida auris, which causes serious infections in critical hospital patients. This infectious agent is hard to identify, is highly resistant to existing drugs, and can cause high mortality rates. It has been especially present to date in countries like Spain, Denmark and the US.

Guillermo Quindós, Professor of Microbiology at the UPV/EHU, will explain about this organism at a talk called “Candida auris, the fungus that has caused an international health alert”.

The session will take place on 4 April at Azkuna Zentroa (Bilbao) and will be in Spanish. It is part of Zientziateka, a monthly series of conferences organised by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the University of the Basque Country and Azkuna Zentroa to raise awareness of current scientific matters.

Tickets should be collected from the Azkuna Zentroa Information Point. Access is free.
