SUMMARY:Cannabinoids: New Research and Therapeutic Options
DESCRIPTION:Xehetasunak \n\n\n\n\nData eta ordua: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEgoitza \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEndocannabinoid systems play a role in several physiological and pathological processes within our bodies. The natural cannabinoids in plants\, as well as synthetic cannabinoids\, are able to improve this endogenous system. In recent years\, a great deal of research has been done on this subject so as to better understand the way in which the endocannabinoid system works in human beings. A recently published report demonstrated that the endocannabinoid system may play a role in high-performance processes such as memory\, as well as others. All of these findings are opening the doors to new options in terms of designing proper cannabinoid-based treatments\, which in turn makes them a therapeutic target of great interest. \n\n\n\nLeire Reguero Acebal\, professor of the School of Medicine and Nursing at the UPV/EHU\, will be discussing the latest research published on the cannabinoid system\, as well as explaining the options offered by cannabinoids in the treatment of diseases\, during a talk & discussion titled “Cannabinoids: New Research and Therapeutic Options“. This activity is part of the Zientziateka programme and will take place on 13 December at Azkuna Zentroa in Bilbao. \n\n\n\nZientziateka is a monthly initiative organised by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU and Azkuna Zentroa to raise awareness of current scientific matters. \n\n\n\nTickets should be collected from the Azkuna Zentroa Information Point. Entry is free.

SUMMARY:Rediscovering Basque primitive art: new findings\, new research
DESCRIPTION:Xehetasunak \n\n\n\n\nData eta ordua: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEgoitza \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe systematic prospecting developed by archaeologists and speleologists alike has grown during the past decade\, multiplying findings of Palaeolithic parietal art in different areas of the Basque Country. The Atxurra (Berriatua) and Armintxe (Lekeitio) caves contain archaeological sites that have become two great “sanctuaries” of cave art. The recent finding and the study of these samples has provided a new vision regarding the first signs of art created by humans in our area. \n\n\n\nThe archaeological technician of the Bizkaia Archaeological Museum\, Diego Gárate shall explain the relevance of these findings at the conference titled “Rediscovering Basque primitive art: new findings\, new research.” \n\n\n\nThe session will take place on 20 December at Azkuna Zentroa (Bilbao) within the Zientziateka conference cycle that is organised every month by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the UPV/EHU with the purpose of raising awareness on current scientific matters. \n\n\n\nTickets should be collected from the Azkuna Zentroa Information Point. Access is free. The talk will be in Spanish.
