DESCRIPTION:Xehetasunak \n\n\n\n\nData eta ordua: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEgoitza \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBioexperiencias II \n\n\n\nOn 30 April\, we will hold the second conference on Bioexperiences at the Bilbao Bizkaia Aretoa. The goal of these conferences is to present biology as science and a profession for students who are interested in it as a career and the general public. It also serves as a forum where professionals from different areas of biology can exchange their experiences. \n\n\n\nThe Bioexperiencias sessions are an initiative of the Official Association of Biologists of the Basque Country\, in collaboration with the Chair of Scientific Culture of the University of the Basque Country. \n\n\n\nAll the sessions will take place at the Arriaga Hall of the UPV/EHU Main Auditorium. Free entry will be subject to available seating. The speeches will be presented in Spanish\, and will be followed by a questions and answers session. \n\n\n\nThe conference programme is the following: \n\n\n\n18.30: “Water management within the WFD 2000”. SUMMARY:Human Evolution: what we don't know and what we think we know
DESCRIPTION:Xehetasunak \n\n\n\n\nData eta ordua: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEgoitza \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are the only species of hominins that exist today. However\, the situation was very different in the past\, as more than one species coincided in time. We think that we know some things about the genealogical tree of the species that make up our linage\, but there are still some questions to be addressed: Which species was the ancestor of the Homo genus? How many species make up the genus? When did the main attributes of the Homo sapiens\, such as bipedalism or brain growth appear? Addressing these questions\, among others\, is one of the major challenges faced by anthropology over the forthcoming years. \n\n\n\nCarmen Manzano\, Professor of Anthropology at the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU\, will address these issues in a talk entitled ‘Human Evolution: what we don’t know and what we think we know’. This event will be held on 24th April at 7pm at Azkuna Zentroa. Zientziateka is a monthly initiative organised by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the UPV/EHU and Azkuna Zentroa to raise awareness of current scientific matters. \n\n\n\nEntry is free. Tickets should be collected from the Azkuna Zentroa Information Point. \n\n\n\nThe talk will be in Basque.

SUMMARY:The Anthropocene: Are we in a new geological time?
DESCRIPTION:Xehetasunak \n\n\n\n\nData eta ordua: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEgoitza \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHas human activity had such an impact on the Earth that it can be considered to have led to the dawn of a new geological period? In recent years\, the term Anthropocene has been proposed to call this new period in the history of our planet and its inclusion in the geological time scale is being studied. There are three proposals to determine when it began: the Neolithic revolution thousands of years ago; the industrial revolution in the 18th century and finally\, the scientific-economic development and the nuclear escalation that took place in the middle of the 20th century. \n\n\n\nAlejandro Cearreta\, Professor of Stratigraphy and Palaeontology at the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU\, will explain the details of this period in the earth’s history in a talk entitled ‘The Anthropocene: Are we in a new geological time? This conference will take place on 14 April at 7 pm at Azkuna Zentroa and it will be in Spanish. \n\n\n\nZientziateka is a monthly initiative organised by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the UPV/EHU and Azkuna Zentroa to raise awareness of current scientific matters. \n\n\n\nTickets should be collected from the Azkuna Zentroa Information Point.
